Anagha Amte was brought up in a well-to-do family by her parents, active in social work, but she had never thought of doing full time non-profit work in a remote, tribal place after living in Goa. During her postgraduate diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology in government medical college, the plight of women there especially during labor, scarcity of facilities and time for these patients, had made a deep impact on her. After working in a corporate hospital where all these things were available for patients who could pay, she realized that she wanted to work for an underprivileged sector.
Since 2003, she has been improving perinatal morbidity in Bhamragad Tehsil as an Obstetrician at Lok Biradari hospital by developing labor room protocols, establishing NICU and changing the approach of staff to the patients.
