2023 Leadership Journey Project: Defeating the Human Papilloma Virus and Empowering Women in the Fight Against Cervical Cancer
Shikha Malik was brought up in an Indian middle-class family, where education was always the highest ideal to strive for. She believes that her problem-solving attitude is one of her greatest strengths.
Her educational and professional experience at some of the best institutions in India (IIT Roorkee, IIT Delhi, Delhi University, ICGEB) and abroad (Harvard University, MIT USA) have forged a strong foundation in the field of research for her. Returning to India and endeavoring to contribute to the advancement of science and improvement of healthcare access in the country was always an important goal.
Currently, at the National Biopharma Mission, BIRAC, Dept. of Biotechnology (DBT), GoI her role involves advancing the development of affordable healthcare products and build capacity for their indigenous development in India. She also leads the vaccine R&D portfolio and has supported in establishing the Clinical Trial Network in the country. For this, she also coordinates with the World Bank.
Communicating science through online and print media is another passion for Shikha which has encouraged her to write for newspapers, journals, and a blog through which she brings the latest scientific research to a wider audience.
