2023 Leadership Journey Project: Uplifting Precious Blood Girls through sisterhood

Dr. Anne Musuva is a health systems specialist with over 15 years of experience in strengthening health systems and in designing and implementing public health and health financing programs. She is a seasoned manager and team leader with a successful track record working with government, private sector, international and local NGOs. Dr Musuva believes that everyone has the right to affordable, quality healthcare and is committed to efforts to realise Universal Health Coverage in low and middle income countries. She leads with courage and integrity and is driven by the impact her work has on others.

Dr Musuva is currently the Regional Director East and Southern Africa at ThinkWell. ThinkWell is a health systems development organisation that supports countries in their journey towards universal health coverage through health financing reforms. She previously served as the Kenya Country Director at ThinkWell. Prior to joining ThinkWell, Anne worked at Population Services Kenya in various capacities, lastly as the Chief Operating Officer. She started her career in the public sector as a medical officer, later serving as a hospital medical superintendent and district medical officer of health.

Dr Musuva has an MSc in Public Health from the ITM in Belgium and a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi. She is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Education program on Strategy for Nonprofits. She has received awards as the Top 40 under 40 women in Kenya and the New Voices in Global Health Award 2017- Berlin.

Her take on Women’s leadership is that the global health challenges we face will benefit from skills that come naturally to women such as determination and empathy. Organisations with a gender diverse leadership are more profitable than those without. This holds true for global health, where women suffer disproportionately  from disease, yet are underrepresented in senior leadership.
