2023 Leadership Journey Project: Empowering women in research: A peer mentorship program for advancement and inclusion
Dr Sarah Kutika is a clinical oncologist, who has keen interest in context specific care for cancer patients and in fostering womens mentorship in cancer research. In this regard she is currently taking a PhD in clinical research so as to become an independent clinical researcher.
Sarah completed her medical internship at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), and proceeded to join the training department at the Ministry of health, as a tutor at Kibaha College of Health and Allied Sciences. In 2015 she joined the oncology residency program and upon completion in 2018, worked as a research coordinator at MUHAS. Currently she is a clinical oncologist at MNH and a research scholar at UCSF.
Sarah earned her medical degree from HKMU, a master degree in clinical oncology from MUHAS and is currently taking a PhD at MUHAS, through a D43 training grant that was awarded for the establishment of a cancer research training program in Tanzania.
Sarah believes women leaders in global health provide a unique perspective that potentially can improve the health and well-being of communities around the world, as well as to promote greater equity and inclusion. She sees women leaders as a source of inspiration and that they motivate other women to pursue careers in this field of medicine, and consequently contributing to positive change.
Fun Fact: Her core value is family and she tries to incorporate this in her life by being compassionate and empathetic with people she comes across.
