Martina Gonzalez Gomez is the Global Neurosurgery program manager for the neurosurgery department of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her primary focus is on integrating global neurosurgery education within residency training programs and working towards the establishment of a formal global neurosurgery fellowship. She also co-instructs a global surgery elective, as part of the Ms Global Health at UAB. She completed her MSc Global Health with Global Surgery at King’s College London, dedicating her dissertation to the topic of Political priority of Global Neurosurgery.
She is a physician with eight years of experience in rural, public and private clinical settings in a Colombia, particularly as assistant physician for neurosurgical services. She has actively participated in the May 2022/23 GAPSBiF WHA side events advocating for folic acid fortification to prevent spina bifida and other neural tube defects and the G4 alliance PC and side events advocating to improve surgical care worldwide. She is also an active volunteer for InterSurgeon.
