Dr Swati Deshpande is a General and Laparoscopic surgeon currently working as an Associate Professor in General Surgery at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) and Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital (AVBRH), Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research (DMIHER, DU) Wardha. Her work entails managing surgical patients and is an undergraduate teacher and postgraduate guide for surgical students. Outside of her clinical and academic responsibilities, she is an active member of the Hospital Infection Control Committee, a departmental team member for NABH and NAAC teams, the Medical Education Unit, the Institutional Ethics Committee and the anti-ragging squad. She is the Vice-chair of the Ethics Committee of the Association of Academic Global Surgery.
Dr. Deshpande’s commitment to transformative healing extends beyond her institutional and regional presence. As a coinvestigator in various sponsored clinical trials and a sought-after voice in global health discourse, she amplifies the call for equitable healthcare access on the international stage as a Scientific Program Advisory Committee member for panel discussion, abstract and video presentations for CUGH 2023 and CUGH 2024. Her participation as a panellist at the Consortium of Universities for Global Health 2022 reflects her unwavering dedication to addressing the burdens of trauma in low- and middle-income countries, weaving threads of empathy into the fabric of global surgical consciousness.
During her career, she has volunteered for numerous medical camps, especially for detecting breast cancer and surgical disorders in rural and tribal populations of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. She has participated in various operative surgical camps for burns contracture corrective surgeries- Operation Restore by National Burns Centre, Airoli.
She is passionate, diligent, hardworking, perseverant and an avid learner. Her hobbies include listening to music and audiobooks, meeting new people and solving puzzles.
