Manisha Gupte is the Founder and Co-Convenor of Mahila Sarvangeen Utkarsh Mandal (MASUM), Pune, and has been an integral part of the women’s movement since the mid-1970s. She is also a prominent activist in the health and civil rights movements in India. As a visiting fellow, she spent a year at the Department of International Health at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore. Manisha is closely involved with several pro-people and progressive organizations, both nationally and internationally, in various capacities such as advisor, trainer, or board member.
Throughout her career, she has actively participated in and promoted campaigns addressing women’s health, violence against women, sexuality, and minority rights. Over the past three decades, she has contributed significantly to policy discussions with both state and central governments in India. She was also the coordinator for the 10th International Women and Health Meeting (IWHM) held in New Delhi in September 2005. Additionally, she serves as the Managing Trustee of Medico Friend Circle (MFC), a 40-year-old independent group of health professionals in India.
