Dr. Meryl Oyomno is a Colorectal Surgeon and academic specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive system conditions, including colorectal cancers.

She received the Discovery Foundation Academic Fellowship Award in 2021 for her PhD research on genetic mutations linked to colorectal cancer predisposition, the 2020 American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) International Scholarship and the 2017 Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) International Scholarship Award.

Dr. Oyomno holds an MBChB from the University of Nairobi and an MMed (Surgery) from Wits University. Currently completing her PhD at the University of Pretoria, her research focuses on colorectal cancer molecular profiling and HIV.

She heads the Colorectal Surgery Unit at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital, performing over 500 procedures annually and training undergraduate and postgraduate students, including future specialists and colorectal surgeons. In private practice at Mediclinic Heart Hospital, she provides expert care to a global patient base. Outside work, she enjoys running, tennis, and quiet reflection.
