Nancy Meulenberg is a lecturer and researcher in molecular medicine at the HIV Pathogenesis Research Unit at the University of the Witwatersrand and chairs the Edge team at the Infectious Disease and Oncology Research Institute (IDORI). Her research interests lie in evaluating potential HIV-1 immunogens in preclinical settings.
Nancy left a promising career at a startup Biotech company to pursue her current role as she believes that a focus on Public Health issues is a better career choice. Nancy received her PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand, an MSc from the University of Cape Town and her Bachelor’s with Distinctions from Boston University.
While her studies and career have spanned three continents, Africa is her home. She strives to see healthcare and education strengthened as well as diversity and equity established in Africa. Nancy has co-authored over twelve peer-reviewed articles in international journals.
Her multilingual and culturally rich heritage make her an excellent candidate for bridging the gap in knowledge discrepancy by increasing exposure of the STEM disciplines in resource-limited settings and addressing the all-too-prevalent vaccine hesitancy.
