2021 Leadership Journey Project: Expanding Access to the Global Faculty Training Program at Stanford Biodesign
Ritu Kamal is a global health-tech innovator, developing new health technologies that improve patient care. She serves as the Associate Director for Global Programs at the Byers Center for Biodesign at Stanford University, leading the Center’s global health activities, like the Global Faculty-in-Training program. She also leads the clinical software marketing team at Illumina, the genomics sequencing company. Previously, she was the vice president of product at Fabric Genomics, an early-stage start-up for clinical genomic analysis. She has worked at CellMax Life as head of product, and at Roche Diagnostics as a scientist. She was a 2010 Stanford-India Biodesign Fellow, where she worked on developing new medical devices to improve maternal and neonatal health. She has also worked for mothers2mothers in South Africa, on preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mothers to newborn children. She has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University, a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
