Maureen Momanyi

Dr. Maureen Momanyi is a Health Specialist (Community Health lead) and a global champion for community and primary health care at UNICEF HQ. In her current capacity, Maureen supports governments, country offices and other stakeholders to strengthen national primary health care systems with a focus on integrated, multi-sectoral models tailored to address priority child health needs at community level. Maureen steered the development and ongoing implementation of UNICEF’s Child Friendly Communities framework to guide the strengthening of community platforms to deliver an integrated package of services. She is also managing strategic regional partnerships with other external stakeholders to maximize and ensure effectiveness in the technical and financial support given to countries for example with USAID, CHAPS and Rockefeller Foundation in the development of the Acceleration Roadmap for Community Health; Global Fund in ensuring effectiveness of financial support to priority iCCM countries and WHO in the development of global/regional products. Prior to joining UNICEF Maureen worked as the Deputy Director of the One Million Community Health Worker Global Campaign, advocating for the scale up of community health worker programmes in Africa and beyond. Maureen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) from the University of Nairobi and a postgraduate degree in Public Health with a major in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley (UCB).
