Hi, I’m Meryl Oyomno, a specialist surgeon dedicated to the fight against cancer.

As Head of the Colorectal Surgery Unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, I am committed to advancing colorectal cancer care. Each year, I perform over 500 procedures while training the next generation of surgeons—both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including future colorectal specialists. In my private practice at Mediclinic Heart Hospital, I provide expert care to a diverse patient community.

My mission is clear: to prevent, alleviate, and ultimately cure colorectal cancer, reducing the suffering it brings to patients and future generations. I pursue this goal through:

  • Expert clinical care: As a colorectal surgeon, I am dedicated to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered treatment. To further enhance therapeutic approaches, I am completing a PhD in genomic and precision therapy.
  • Medical education: I am committed to training the next generation of colorectal specialists to address the urgent need for subspecialists in our country and region.
  • Pioneering research: I conduct research aimed at improving colorectal cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment while fostering the development of more clinician-scientists.
  • National screening initiatives: I lead efforts to establish a national colorectal cancer screening program, with a vision to expand it across Africa.

This work is only possible through collaboration. By combining clinical practice, education, and research, we are transforming colorectal cancer care and bringing hope to patients and their families.
