Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a leading cause of death and suffering in India. I lead the REALISE (Realist Evaluation Advancement Lab for Implementation Strategy Explanations) research study, which aims to understand and improve the implementation of India’s National Programme for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD). Through this realist research, we seek to uncover what works, what doesn’t, for whom, and how in the implementation of NP-NCD.
At the same time, we are building the capacity of health system actors to apply and utilize realist research findings—an approach that is still in its early stages in India. By improving the implementation strategies of NP-NCD, we hope to make a lasting impact on the country’s fight against non-communicable diseases.
