Juliet Allen Babirye

I am Juliet Allen Babirye, a physician-researcher from Uganda and a board member of the Uganda Society for Health Scientists (USHS). For the past 25 years, USHS has had the mandate to promote research for better health in Uganda and beyond. One of our key pillars at USHS is mentorship, and as a current leader, I have been mentored by some of the strongest women research leaders in Uganda, including Prof. Harriet Mayanja-Kizza, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika, Prof. Damalie Nakanjako, Prof. Noeline Nakasujja, and Dr. Christine Ssekagya, among others—all former board members of USHS.

USHS has provided me with the opportunity to nurture, guide, and direct early-career researchers as they embark on their journeys in the world of research. The greatest satisfaction comes from witnessing young mentees take leaps of faith and achieve significant milestones in areas they once doubted they could conquer. My biggest lesson has been that mentorship is a two-way journey, and I look forward to seeing more women researchers in Uganda reach their full potential.
