Kelly Zongo: Reimagining Leadership Through Inclusion

In the neglected tropical disease (NTD) space, equity is at the core of our mission—but real progress comes from the extra efforts we make. One of my greatest accomplishments has been shifting mindsets on gender, equity, and social inclusion—not as a checkbox, but as a lens that informs every decision. Through training, difficult conversations, and publishing on these critical issues, I work to make inclusion the norm, not an afterthought.

More importantly, I believe in leading from behind; creating space for emerging women leaders in global health to step forward and shine. Their voices, insights, and leadership are shaping the future of health equity, and ensuring they have the opportunities to thrive is one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

This International Women’s Day, I celebrate the power of women’s leadership and the collective impact we make when we uplift each other. When women lead, we transform health outcomes, strengthen systems, and change lives.
