In the heart Pilani, the Women in Education – Raising Engagement and Awareness in the Community through Hands-on Learning (W.E. – R.E.A.C.H.) initiative took shape, inspired by Prof. Jayashree Mahesh’s leadership journey through the BIRAC Women in STEM program. Driven by the belief that empowerment begins with education, she brought together faculty and students at BITS Pilani to uplift schoolgirls from underserved communities.
Under her guidance, the initiative integrated mentorship with essential life skills, using Service Learning Pedagogy to foster an engaging, hands-on learning experience. Through interactive workshops, 54 higher secondary school girls gained critical knowledge in financial literacy, health, safe technology use, and goal setting, transforming obstacles into opportunities for growth.
As the final workshop concluded, the impact was undeniable. Certificates were awarded, achievements celebrated, and a strong community of empowered learners emerged. Prof. Mahesh’s initiative has set a new standard for academic and societal collaboration, proving that education infused with purpose and leadership can break barriers and spark transformation. Thanks to the Women Leadership in STEM program, her vision continues to inspire, paving the way for a future where every girl has the opportunity to thrive.
