As a public health researcher, I harness robust evidence to transform health programs, services, and policies. My journey began with a research project on youth reproductive health in Nepal, where I discovered three pivotal lessons that continue to shape my work.

I witnessed a stark contrast between young people’s aspirations and the harsh realities they face—early marriage, interrupted education, limited healthcare access, and pervasive violence. This experience reaffirmed the need for a holistic approach that examines the full spectrum of people’s lives and the barriers preventing them from achieving their goals. We built strong partnerships by engaging directly with community members—from youth and parents to local decision-makers—right from the start of each project. This collaboration deepened our insights and fostered essential trust. Our work did not stop at evidence generation; my team and I returned to communities, using our findings to develop locally driven solutions.

Since then, whether leading research to assess HIV prevention programs, evaluating digital tools to enhance health service utilization, or exploring women’s needs for new contraceptive products, each endeavor reinforces my mission: to go beyond narrow health concerns, meaningfully engage communities in evidence generation, and drive action with research that inspires real change.
