H.E Mrs Monica Geingos – Former First Lady of Namibia

H.E Mrs Monica GeingosMrs. Monica Geingos is a distinguished lawyer, former First Lady of Namibia (2015–2024), and past President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). During her tenure as President of OAFLAD, she led the #WeAreEqual campaign, advocating for gender equity across Africa. Currently, Monica serves as co-chair of the Global Council on Inequality, AIDS, and Pandemics, and holds leadership roles with several influential organizations, including the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center, Kepler College, WomenLift Health, and Concordia.

Throughout her career, Mrs Geingos has been recognized for her advocacy work, earning the UNAIDS Special Advocate designation, Hall of Femme Honouree and SDG Advocate, positioning her as a prominent voice on the international stage.

In the private sector, Mrs Geingos has held significant roles, including Managing Director of Namibia’s largest private equity fund. She has served on the boards of major public and private institutions and contributed to high-level advisory councils. Drawing on this experience, she founded the One Economy Foundation, an initiative focused on combating poverty and inequality. Through the foundation, she launched Project #BeFree, a youth-focused center that provides healthcare, life skills training, and educational services, in partnership with both public and private sectors.

Mrs Geingos’ career is further marked by her expertise in the financial sector, where she led initiatives in capital markets, corporate finance, and private equity. Her leadership and impact have earned her Namibia’s highest honours, including the title of “Namibian Business Personality of the Year,” and she is frequently named among Africa’s most influential leaders. Committed to leveraging her strategic experience in both the public and private sectors, Monica remains dedicated to driving institutional change and empowering women and young people to reach their leadership potential.

Akhona Tshangela – Director, Southern Africa Ms. Akhona Tshangela is a public health professional with over 15 years of experience, including as a pioneer at the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, where she co-chaired the science, regulations, and standards technical working group during the COVID-19 response. She holds a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor’s in Human Genetics from the University of Cape Town. As the Southern Africa Director for WomenLift Health, Akhona is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and the vital role of female leadership in public health decision-making. Learn more

Tokoloho Ramapepe – Communications Manager, Southern Africa

Tokoloho Ramapepe Communications Manager – Southern AfricaMs. Tokoloho Ramapepe is a seasoned media and communication professional with over 15 years of experience. Known for her roles at radio stations like 94.7, Kaya FM, and Power FM, she has also excelled as a Communication and Media Relations Manager for The City of Ekurhuleni and Transnet SOC. Currently, Toko is the Communications Manager for Southern Africa at WomenLift Health, where she utilizes her skills to promote women’s empowerment and advance gender equality in health leadership. WomenLift Health is thrilled to launch our Inaugural Speaker Series, centered on “Redefining Work/Life Balance for Women Leaders in Public Health.” This session will serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue about the challenges and opportunities women encounter while balancing their professional and personal lives. 

It offers a unique opportunity for women leaders to delve deeper into a topic of interest previously discussed in a PowerUp session, while also gaining insights from a prominent speaker who will share her experiences and expertise. This event aims to bridge the gap between theoretical content and real-life application, providing valuable perspectives that enrich our understanding of this crucial subject.

A 1-hour virtual event, where Monica Geingos will share her experiences and insights on work-life balance. We aim to foster an engaging environment where participants can discuss their own experiences and learn from one another.

Context of the Discussion 

Women leaders in public health often navigate complex challenges, including competing demands and fast-paced work environments, all while balancing domestic responsibilities. The need for a sustainable approach to managing work-life boundaries has become even more pressing in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

This Speaker Series seeks to reframe traditional notions of “balance” into a more harmonious and integrative approach, encouraging participants to explore how they can better align their professional and personal priorities.
