Aleefia Somji is a measurement, evaluation, research and learning expert, with over a decade of experience in global health across diverse geographies and contexts. Aleefia leverages her global background to strengthen in-country capacity and catalyze country-to-country learning. She has provided technical assistance in developing and implementing monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) plans, with a focus on using data for decision-making across several technical areas, including maternal health, malaria, and family planning. In her current role as a Principal Technical Advisor for Measurement, Evaluation and Learning for the USAID flagship MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership project she supports the Maternal and Newborn Health team, co-manages the MEL team, and implements the Adaptive Management and Learning strategy. She grew up in Tanzania and has supported programs in several countries including Nigeria, India, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Aleefia has recently been elected as a peer reviewer for Global Health Science and Practice and is looking forward to continuing her contributions to public health research and practice. She holds an MSc in the Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and has completed her doctoral level coursework from Boston University School of Public Health.
