2024 Leadership Journey Project:Thrive: Self-Care Strategies for Women Leaders
Aleefia Somji is a seasoned expert in measurement, evaluation, research, and learning, with over a decade of experience in global health across diverse regions and contexts. Leveraging her extensive international background, she enhances country capacities and fosters cross-country learning. Aleefia has developed and implemented monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) plans, with a focus on maternal health, malaria, and family planning. In her current role as Principal Technical Advisor for Measurement, Evaluation, and Learning for the USAID flagship MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership project, Aleefia offers technical support to global and country teams, co-manages the MEL team, and co-leads the implementation of the Adaptive Management and Learning (AML) strategy. She also serves as an Associate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she co-teaches an AML course and loves to emphasize the importance of utilizing data for informed decision-making. Raised in Tanzania, Aleefia has contributed to health programs in numerous countries, including Nigeria, India, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Recently appointed as a peer reviewer for Global Health Science and Practice, she continues to make significant contributions to public health research and practice. Aleefia holds an MSc in the Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and has completed doctoral-level coursework at Boston University School of Public Health.
