2022 Leadership Journey Project: Kick-start an operational RND site for dev. of biosimilar products towards affordable healthcare
From being born and brought up in a conservative South-Indian family to currently heading the Analytical Sciences function for biosimilar development at Biocon Biologics, Bangalore, her journey for the last two and half decades has been a rather unconventional roller coaster ride. After nine long years of family break due to postings in the armed forces, she re-entered academics by qualifying the All-India competitive exams like CSIR-NET and GATE. She was awarded the Junior Research Fellowship to pursue PhD in nationally acclaimed labs. In her current role at Biocon Biologics, Bangalore, Anita leads the analytical strategy of a large portfolio of insulins and mAbs. In her earlier role, she had been instrumental in building the new Chennai R&D site, since its inception. Prior to joining Biocon, she has been in various leadership roles at biopharmaceutical organizations such as Lupin, Intas and Kashiv Biosciences. She has considerable alliance management experience with international collaborators like Yoshindo and Mylan and has significantly contributed towards obtaining EMA, PMDA and TGA approval for biosimilar etanercept, the first from India. She is a subject matter expert of physico-chemical, structural and functional characterization of monoclonal antibodies and fusion proteins. She is on the USP Expert Panel (2020-2025) for Multi-Attribute Methods using mass spectrometry. Anita loves travel, adventure and reading. She is married to Group Captain Krishnan, an Airforce officer, and has a daughter, Niharika, who is pursuing MS in Computer Science in New York University.
