Anu Oommen is a Professor at Department of Community Health, Christian Medical College, Vellore, and currently a PhD scholar with the University of Melbourne. She was motivated to work in secondary care, and in public health, after working in a rural hospital in central India, and recognizing the need to improve access to universal essential health care. Her experiences in secondary and primary care services in rural and tribal Vellore pushed her towards chronic disease control. Her research interests progressed from burden of disease and screening to a current interest in health systems and implementation research. Anu hopes to contribute to reducing research-to-policy and practice gaps, bringing effective interventions to women and their families who are at the highest risk of preventable NCDs. As a public health teacher, she also aims to motivate her students to apply their public health skills and knowledge to bring equity in health care for marginalized populations.
