Post surgical training at BARC Hospital, Mumbai, I worked in rural Chhattisgarh, catering to below poverty line populace. I learnt nuances of surgical care with minimalistic resources. It was a life-changing experience. I realised that just being able to live with a roof over the head and food on table is a challenge for most people. So, its futile to fret over our own demons and look and learn from the larger picture. I am presently involved in surgical training and provide surgical care at a charitable hospital, New Mumbai. I was commissioned to be a member of the writing group (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare), Government of India, to develop ‘Major Trauma Standard Treatment Guidelines’. A mother to an 8-year-old daughter, staying with husband and both set of parents, I participate actively in daily household chores leading a happy, simple life. With my surgical consultancy and teaching, I am an active public health researcher for trauma-care, AMR prevention, Breast Cancer and lead “IndSurg’ group, a research segment of WHO Collaborating Centre for Research in Surgical Care Delivery in India. I am also leading the team re-writing and editing the second edition of the ‘Global Surgery’ book- ‘Surgical Care at the District Hospitals’, a project by the WHO Academy.
