2023 Leadership Journey Project: Priorities, Challenges and Opportunities in Advancing Women’s Decision-Making Autonomy
Dr. Charity Oga-Omenka is an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health Sciences, University of Waterloo. Her over 15 years’ experience in public health projects and research focused on TB, HIV and maternal health. It has involved researching and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in different countries including Nigeria, Uganda, South Sudan, India, Indonesia, as well as in Canada and the United States. She has worked as program manager with a PEPFAR and Global funded project in Nigeria providing life‐saving healthcare to patients with HIV, malaria and tuberculosis (TB). In the course of this work, she supervised and trained many healthcare workers, particularly Pharmacists and Nurses in many different hospitals across Nigeria. She coordinated a maternal health and HIV project in Uganda and South Sudan, managing project accounts and ensuring timely execution of activities in line with workplans. She also managed a large mixed methods study on the impact of COVID on private sector healthcare in Indonesia, India and Nigeria. Charity holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, a master’s in public health from the University of Western Cape, South Africa and a PhD in Public Health (Global Health specialization) from the University of Montreal, Canada.
