Dr. Mumba Chalwe is a trailblazer in the field of urology, making history as Zambia’s first female urologist. Currently a Consultant Urologist and the Head of the Urology at Ndola Teaching Hospital, she excels in leading multidisciplinary teams and spearheading healthcare improvement projects. Dr. Chalwe’s career is marked by a profound commitment to advancing surgical standards and promoting equitable healthcare access both locally and globally. Her impressive academic 

credentials include a Fellowship in Urology from the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa, and Diploma in Cancer and Clinical Oncology from Queen Mary University of London and. She also holds a Research based Masters in Medicine in Urology from the University of Zambia. She serves as an Associate Editor on the Annals of African Surgery board, A deputy Editor on the East, Central and Southern African journal of Surgery and is a board Trustee for the British journal of Urology International. 

Dedicated to enhancing the quality of surgical training and patient care, Dr. Chalwe’s leadership extends beyond her clinical roles. She actively engages in clinical service improvement projects such as the Prostate Cancer Unit at Ndola Teaching Hospital and the BRCA Mutations in Prostate Cancer study with the Tropical Disease Research Centre based in Ndola. As the Chairperson of the Women in Surgery Africa she championed the implementation of the Women inSurgery Research grant (WiSURG) and was the Team Lead for the Women in Medicine/Women in Surgery Africa Collaboration with Operation Smile 2022-2024. As a clinician, an educator and advocate, Dr. Chalwe’s contributions to global surgery and dedication to healthcare sustainability make her a beacon for the beacon for the future of Surgery on the African Continent.
