Dr. Nashivai Kivuyo is a dedicated surgeon, clinical researcher, and advocate for equitable cancer care in resource-limited settings. She is a Lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and a practicing surgeon at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), specializing in cancer treatment. A founding member of the MNH Breast Cancer Research Working Group and an active contributor to the Tanzania Surgery Research Group (TSurg), she is committed to advancing local cancer research.
As Secretary General of the Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT), Dr. Kivuyo advocates for healthcare professionals and policy improvements. Passionate about women’s leadership in global health, she believes women bring diverse perspectives, innovative solutions, and inclusive decision-making that empower communities and improve health outcomes. She is also dedicated to mentoring future medical professionals.
Her contributions have earned her prestigious awards, including the SIDA Early Career Award, the Tanzania Beat Cancer Award, the ASCO Global Oncology Young Investigator Award, the LAUNCH Program Award,
and the UCSF Global Cancer Program Fellowship.
Beyond medicine, she enjoys reading and traveling, constantly seeking new perspectives to enhance her advocacy for equitable healthcare.
