Dr. Shalmali Radha Karnad

Dr Radha Karnad is a health systems specialist with over 15 years of experience in strengthening health systems and in designing and implementing primary care and women’s health programs across East and Southern Africa. Dr Karnad is the Director, Child Health and Development – Africa at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, overseeing CIFF’s investments in maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition across Africa. She was formerly a founding team member of HealthX Africa – a digital-first primary health care service providing affordable care across Kenya – including development and implementation of strategic initiatives to drive HealthX’s growth, and overseeing strategic partnerships, government engagement and technical assistance. Before HealthX, Radha established the global Primary Health Care (PHC) portfolio as Senior Technical Advisor for PHC at Jhpiego Corp – an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University. She has formerly worked as Program Manager, focused on quality maternity care programming, at Jacaranda Health. An NHS-trained doctor, Dr Karnad has a Bachelor of Arts (Biology and Anthropology) from Bryn Mawr College, a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Southampton, and a Masters in Public Health (Health Services Management) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
