Dr. Masika Sophie is a highly accomplished Veterinarian with a Masters in Epidemiology and Economics. Her professional focus has been to demonstrate the value of One Health in system strengthening to tackle complex health policy challenges. She is currently the Global Health Policy Manager at the World Federation for Animals where she provides invaluable insights and leadership in formulating a global approach to mitigate health risks. She previously was the Liaison to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) on the nexus of the triple planetary crises and health. Masika also worked with the National Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) in Kenya as an epidemiologist and chief veterinary Officer working jointly with the Ministry of Health to design and implement appropriate One Health frameworks. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Masika supported Moi Teaching and Referal Hospital’s preparedness and response as their epidemiology analyst. She also had a foot in research working with primates on zoonotic virus hunting at the Institute of Primate Research and in wildlife conservation mapping Pangolins in Masai Mara National Reserve.
