Dr. Tsion Terefe Abeme

Dr. Tsion Terefe Abame is a passionate medical doctor and public health professional dedicated to improving equitable eye care and healthcare outcomes in Ethiopia. As the Program Development Manager at Orbis International Ethiopia, she leads strategic partnerships, program design, and stakeholder engagement to enhance access to quality eye healthcare services.

With a strong background in medicine, monitoring & evaluation, and gender inclusion, Dr. Tsion previously served as the M&E Lead at Love in Action Ethiopia, ensuring data-driven program improvements. She also worked as a Gender and Social Inclusion Expert, integrating gender-responsive approaches into health programs. Her experience includes business development at Reach Consultancy and clinical practice as a General Medical Practitioner in government hospitals, where she provided patient care, performed minor surgeries, and mentored clinical students.

Dr. Tsion holds a Medical Doctorate (MD) and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Radiologic Technology. She is a strong advocate for women’s leadership in global and public health, believing that women’s perspectives drive inclusive, transformative, and effective health interventions.

Fun fact: Tsion enjoys walking, going to the gym, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. She is highly curious and driven—once she finds the root of a problem, she is fully committed to solving it!
