Esete Getachew is a Social and Behavior Change (SBC) expert and gender equality advocate with 15 years of experience in designing and implementing gender-transformative SBC programs. She currently serves as the Regional Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor and Senior SBC Advisor for Ethiopia at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, where she leads regional gender integration efforts to enhance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for women and marginalized youth across East Africa.
Her career at Johns Hopkins spans SBC program design, implementation, and capacity building at both global and country levels. She has held key roles, including GESI Deputy Lead, where she provided technical assistance and developed capacity-strengthening tools globally, and Gender and Maternal Health Advisor in Ethiopia, where she spearheaded gender-transformative SBC initiatives.
Esete holds a Master’s in Gender Studies from Addis Ababa University and certifications from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Washington in gender and public health advocacy. Passionate about women’s leadership, she believes in creating spaces where women’s voices shape policies and drive change.
Fun fact: Esete is currently exploring pottery and loves the creative, hands-on process of shaping clay into unique designs.
