2023 Leadership Journey Project: Strengthening institutionalization of HRH planning and management tools to generate data on health workforce for informed decision making
Janet Muriuki is a medical doctor with over 21 years of experience in international and global development, public and private health service delivery, community health, health system strengthening, and human resources for health.
She started her career as a clinician and later moved on to senior roles leading USG-funded projects. She has a proven track record of building strong working relationships with Kenya’s Ministry of Health, private sector stakeholders, academia, and donor agencies.
Janet Muriuki currently serves as the acting Global Technical Director – Health Workforce Development and Kenya Country Director for IntraHealth International. She previously worked as the Chief of Party/Program Lead for the USAID-funded IntraHealth-led Human Resources for Health (HRH) Kenya Mechanism and held roles as Technical Director and Deputy Chief of Party for HRH Capacity Bridge and Capacity Kenya projects.
Before joining IntraHealth International, Janet worked with Pathfinder as a Quality Improvement Advisor and Service Delivery Specialist.
Janet holds a master’s in public health from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology, Kenya, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from The University of Nairobi, Kenya. She has attended in-house/organizational leadership programs and governance training.
Fun Fact: Janet Muriuki loves traveling, reading books, hiking, cooking and spending time with family. She’s a wine lover and foodie – enjoys spending time exploring various restaurants in Nairobi and during her travels.
