Joan Angella Bakali is a Health and Behavior Change Communication professional currently serving as the Social Franchise Coordinator for Family Health Services in Malawi.She coordinates Malawi’s leading private clinic network, comprising over 70 clinics that collaborate with Family Health Services to provide health services.
Joan is pursuing a Master of Arts in Health and Behavior Change Communication at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences and holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health.With 10 years experience,she has been instrumental in introducing decentralized distribution of HIV treatment in the private sector through the EPIC DDD model, launching HIV self-testing kits, and implementing DMPA-SC contraceptive methods in private healthcare settings. Currently, she collaborates with young community members to enhance contraceptive uptake through peer education, utilizing tools like Education Through Listening (ETL) and Human-Centered Design.
She mentors 40 young community mobilizers across Malawi and has guided numerous young individuals who have become influential leaders in different platforms. In 2019, she was nominnated as one of the “”120 Under 40″” new generation of family planning leaders for her contributions in family planning.
