2024 Leadership Journey Project: Resource Mobilization and Donor Influence: Powering Women Leaders to Accelerate Global Health
Joan Muasa is a global health and development leader with over 15 years of experience designing and implementing corporate and program strategies, managing cross-sector partnerships across country, regional, and global stakeholders, and securing diverse funding streams. Drawing from her extensive background in public funding, multilateral organizations, philanthropy, and impact investment, Joan has cultivated a vast donor network and facilitated strategic partnerships spanning the US, UK, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Joan’s expertise lies in advancing health equity, harnessing the transformative potential of digital currencies and AI, scaling innovative global solutions, and leveraging digital ecosystems for sustainable impact. She is deeply committed to ensuring that marginalized populations are not left behind while fostering solutions that improve lives and protect the planet. She collaborates with high-impact social enterprises, donor collaboratives, impact investment firms, accelerators, and local government ministries to foster innovation, achieve business development and partnership goals, and drive measurable outcomes. Joan is dedicated to promoting systemic social change in global health and the digital economy, while amplifying diverse perspectives at decision-making tables. Prior to consulting, Joan served as Senior Director, Institutional Relationships and Program Review at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), where she led institutional donor management, resource mobilization, and program reviews. Earlier, she held leadership roles at Oxfam as Senior Finance and Operations Director, overseeing strategic planning and programming across 80 countries. Joan holds an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Nairobi, is a certified accountant, and has completed executive programs at Oxford and MIT. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in digital assets and blockchain technologies.
