Joanna Skinner has 17 years of experience in public health and social development, with an emphasis on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Her areas of expertise include social and behavior change (SBC) for sexual and reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, adolescent health and maternal, newborn and child health. As the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Lead at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, she sets the overarching vision for GESI work at the Center. She is passionate about designing SBC programs that address gender as a social determinant of health, as well as creating innovative and impact-driven gender transformative approaches to achieve gender equality. Ms. Skinner previously worked at UNFPA and the Division for the Advancement of Women at the United Nations. She has an MHS in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an MA in East Asian Studies from Harvard University.
