Dr. Lakshmi Gopalakrishnan is an Assistant Professional Researcher at the University of California, San Francisco. Trained as a population and behavioral health scientist, she brings over 16 years of extensive research and consulting experience to her work. Dr. Gopalakrishnan’s research primarily focuses on maternal and child health, nutrition, and gender issues across diverse global settings, including India, Nepal, Kenya, and the Philippines. Her research program, influenced by firsthand observations of gender inequities in India, centers on developing and testing behavioral interventions for young couples to improve sexual, reproductive, and maternal health outcomes, including perinatal depression. She holds a PhD in Health Policy from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a Master of Science in Information Systems from the London School of Economics.
