The empathetic collective actions of the people in my native village of Assam towards their development inspired me to actively contribute to society. I could earn a good education due to the best efforts and encouragement from my parents. As I grew up, I realized that I was one of the better-privileged women who received support to pursue her dreams. During my master’s in Social Work from Delhi University and later PhD in Social Medicine and Community Health from Jawaharlal Nehru University, I met women from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and I became more aware of gender disparities and inequities. I began my academic journey to actively work for the development of society, especially towards building and enhancing agency of women. I have acquired social work skills, knowledge, and understanding of public health systems through my academic and professional journey with grass-roots NGOs, academic institutes, and international organizations in last 10 years.
