Smriti Vasisht, Assistant Director, MAMTA- Health Institute for Mother & Child
The 2009 swine flu pandemic and dengue outbreak showed me that the problem is structural, not personal. Because I am profoundly passionate about people, their struggles with health and distress, and the necessity of locating systemic solutions, I have decided to pursue a profession in public health. In addition to my MBBS and M.D. degrees, I have extensive public health management expertise. While my seniors and guides helped shape my skills, the twelve years I spent working in urban and rural areas of the country’s most populous states for national and international organisations like PATH, the Ministry of Health, and the WHO completed my toolbox. Engaging in this profession has afforded me the chance to observe first-hand the profound ramifications of health concerns and the anguish they inflict upon individuals from diverse backgrounds. Further, I have been fortunate enough to make contributions to more extensive endeavours that seek to enhance the state of affairs.
